BENDIGO (AP). After
last weeks solid hit-out versus the Throwbacks, a game in which the
Hulkamaniacs went down by just 6 points, this week was a second
consecutive game against a new team into the division 2 men's
competition - Pre Mix King. And
the Hulkamaniacs suffered a blow before the match even got underway,
with the withdrawal of 2003/04 and 2004 MVP - Phill C - was was
suffering for the flu. The good news was the return of
Hulkamaniacs foundation player Phill S, whilst Ross' contract has been
extended in the ongoing absence of Adam with suspension. In
the early going, it was Pre Mix King that got the jump on the
Hulkamaniacs, making a succession of early baskets to open up a handy
margin and looking dangerous. Without
their MVP, the Hulkamaniacs needed someone to step up.
Surprisingly, it was second gamer Ross that would ignite his side,
hitting on the Hulkamaniacs first 7 points of the night, seemingly
sparking them into action. Ross' barrage of points, was quickly
followed by contributions from Beau and Jayson and things were starting
to roll. Further
compounding matters for Pre Mix King, was a leg injury to one of
their key players, effectively forcing them to play with 4 players for
the remainder of the contest - though the injured player remained on
court, but it would prove just to be a band-aid solution, as from this
point - the contest was never in doubt. The first half for the Hulkamaniacs closed with a total of 21 points shared between Beau and Jayson (a sign of things to come), taking the match from being slightly in doubt, to all but over at the half - especially taking into consideration the reduced capacity of the opposition team. The second half continued just how the first half finished, with the Hulkamaniacs not letting up the pressure, as Beau and Jayson continued their big day out - getting to the basket almost at will. Pre Mix King, to their credit, battled on admirably - taking full advantage of having one player stay on the offensive end of the court the entire half, with several long passes and subsequent long range attempts almost unavoidable from a Hulkamaniacs point of view. The margin throughout the second half barely crept below 15, whilst getting as high at one point of 30 points. Beau and Jayson continued their onslaught throughout the second half, whilst Ross chipped in again to add to his tally, with Murray and Luke also making offensive contributions. The final score was 63-42. Leading scorers for the Hulkamaniacs were Beau with 24, Jayson 21, Ross 12, Murray 4 and Luke 2 points. Next
week, the Hulkamaniacs are up against yet another new team - the
Dwarfz, at 7:40pm on court 6. The Dwarfz are in second spot, having
started the season quite well after just the 2 games. With Phill C
hopefully back in the line-up - the Hulkamaniacs should be quite a
difficult proposition for the new team in the division.
MVP Standings: To be updated once grading for division 2 is completed. - Luke Last weeks Hulkamaniacs Poll results: Q: Should Adam have been suspended? A: No way (3 out of 3 votes) | ||
