Hulkamaniacs celebrate 100th game in style, in rout of Wolverines.
|
The Hulkamaniacs have celebrated their 100th all-time game in style, with a comfortable and emphatic 37-point victory against traditional rivals, the Wolverines.
In
a match dominated by the Hulkamaniacs fast, free flowing style of
basketball, the usual suspects Phil C, Beau and Murray thrived.
Adam, returning to the team after 3 weeks out of the line-up, had
another solid game, contributing 13 points and providing a major
presence down low for his team.
Murray was especially prominent early, getting the Hulkamaniacs going with a series of impressive drives to the basket. When the lane was closed, Murray pulled back for a jump shot with similar success, scoring the Hulkamaniacs first three baskets and continuing his solid form from an individual standpoint.
It didn't take long for the game to open up considerably, with Phil C, Ross and Beau looking to run at every opportunity, with Phil C in particular getting involved offensively. Adam marked his return in usual fashion, connecting on the first of three 3-point field goals on the night for him.
By half time, the lead had been extended further - as Beau, Luke and Ross added their names to the scoresheet - and in fact - by half time, every Hulkamaniacs player had got on the board. With the addition of a penalty for the Wolverines not providing a scorer, the margin had blow out to 28 points after 20 minutes.
Following the break, the rout continued. Phil C, Adam, Beau and Murray continued their strong play throughout the second half as the game progressed further out of the Wolverines reach. Luke also stepped up offensively, adding to his half-time scoring tally by hitting a 3-point field goal to continue the procession.
Led by a quartet of players reaching double figures (a very rare feat indeed), the Hulkamaniacs were pressing to ensure another percentage boosting victory, in a season where percentage could well determine a team's final position on the ladder.
In a historic Hulkamaniacs moment and a fitting conclusion to the Hulkamaniacs 100th match, Phil C notched up his 900th point (all-time) on his final shot of the night (a 3-point field goal) -becoming the first Hulkamaniacs player to reach that milestone.
To their credit, the Wolverines managed to improve their output in the second half, thanks mainly to a couple of successful 3-point field goal attempts, combined with some easier fast break chances once the game had well and truly opened up.
The final score was 69-32.
Leading scorers for the Hulkamaniacs were Phil C with 15, Adam 13, Beau 11, Murray 10, Luke 8 and Ross 2.
Next
week, the Hulkamaniacs (5W-2L) come up against the Dwarfz
(1W-6L). The Hulkamaniacs have won 3 out of 4 meetings with the
Dwarfz all-time, with both teams usually bringing out the best of each
other. The Dwarfz will remember it was the Hulkamaniacs that
eliminated them from the finals last season, and will be looking to
atone for that performance next Wednesday night.
Hulkamaniacs Poll results: Q: Was Beau unlucky to be thrown out of last week's game? A: Yes, without a doubt (3 vote), No, a bit stiff (1 vote), No, it was warranted (1 vote).
