Up to this date, my sister and I were planning to go to a latino conference being held in Philadelphia, PA. I have known about there will be a baby shower sometime but I hadn�t a clue when. The pregnancy and baby shower are things I have given up control over. So there�s been months of clues here and there about a baby shower. A friend would ask about it or some random conversation would occurred but I hadn�t been trying to figure it all out. On Thursday, I got three calls from my sister (not unusual) to talk about the conference (and yes there really WAS a latino conference). We talked about what to wear but then she asked me to bring the camcorder and o, by the way she had an extra ticket and maybe Karl wanted to come. Hmmm� this started making me suspicious. What really gave me a hint was on Friday when Karl and I were hanging out with friend, Paul and Ivet. Paul said randomly �So what time are you guys decorating tomorrow?� There was that awkward moment of silence and then I made us something to get the conversation onto something else. Okay �. Something�s up. So on Saturday, my sister arrives and we�re heading out. We then do some pre-taping of the camcorder because the purpose of bringing it was for Sandra to use some footage for her multicultural class she�s teaching in the fall. Okay� now I�m confused. Maybe we�re going to Philly and to the conference and the shower is on Sunday or someplace there. So in the car we go and we�re filming and my sister is getting lost on campus and driving around and we ended up in the parking lot of the Blue and Gold Club (a nice restaurant on campus). She passes me an envelope saying it�s directions and I open it up and �It�s a SURPRISE Baby shower!�. I couldn�t believe it!!! How did she know about this restaurant? Karl and her did an amazing job keeping this a surprise.
So we walk in and there�s friends and family from all paths of our lives. Aunt Laura and Fran drove down from NJ and Karl didn�t even know about that since he just saw them on the Alaska cruise last week and they didn�t� tell him they were coming. There was my boss, Kathleen, and friends Paul and Ivet and Sami. A big surprise was my brother-in-law, Mike, who I thought was on a plane heading to California, which turned out to be a big lie. The biggest surprise was my dear friend from the Plymouth State College days, Bonnie, who drove down from Massachusetts and it was a LONG trip for her � about 8 hours due to traffic. What a surprise!!! I was so blown away � I kept on saying No way! No way! Wow!! I hadn�t seen her for a few years and she looked great.
The shower got underway with a luncheon and then some baby shower games like present bingo and baby oopss�. If you said baby you lost a clip and who had the most at the end won a prize. Then it came time for opening presents. It was just so amazing all the gifts and love we got from everyone. I was so surprised! My sister and Karl had gotten hold of lots of friends who sent their love and notes. I couldn�t believe that so many people knew about this and kept it such a secret. We loved all the presents and feel so blessed to be so loved by so many people. Thank you ALL for making this experience so special and amazing. And I thank God for giving me my sister and Karl and being so lucky in love. |
