Carcavelos

What would you say if I told you that you can get tubed just 10 minutes away from the center of Lisbon? Interested? Read on...
One of the beaches nearer Lisbon, Carcavelos can be a wonderful surprise when it comes to bodyboarding. It is the largest beach in the so-called Linha do Estoril.
Carcavelos is a beachbreak facing the south quadrant, a couple a hundred meters long, limited by rock on both ends. The fact that it is turned south added to its location, near the Tagus' mouth, gives it some protection from the northwest swells that so often sweep the portuguese west coast. But make no mistake; despite its protective looking geography, Carcavelos has the ability to deliver fine surf. A classical day in Carcavelos means long, hollow 2 m barrels, particularly on the easternmost part of the beach, by the rocks.
