Meron din mga humingi ng essay, a thought came to mind and now eto ung resulta. Has it ever happened to you that the basis for your decision making was the image you would portray as a result of that decision? Have you ever made a choice wherein mas importante sayo yung magmukhang mas elitista, mas "kool" kesa dun sa mas praktikal na choice or the more obvious one among the two? Nagkaroon ka na ba ng sitwasyon na you had all the reason to pick something over the other but you still got the other one, and your only reason was "image"? Madalas ito nangyayari sa atin, our human nature dictates that we should pick whichever choice will make us look better, more superior, more likable than who we really are. The image that an item/a person/a decision gives us is very important to us. We find it hard to choose the more practical choice or the more obvious choice, or the choice which is truly comfortable to us just because the image of the other one is way better. Narito ang ilang halimbawa:
Sometimes the reverse of the situation happens. Yung mga iba ay wlang motibo na ikareer ung image nila kaso yung mga masa naman take the image thing for granted at di na sila nakilala for their abilities, passion, or choice but for the image that they unintentionally created. Eto ay nangyari sa mga ilang banda tulad ng Slipknot. Yung masks nila at uniform jumpsuits ay naisipan lang nila, it was actually created in order to hide their faces and identities kasi hindi naman talaga kelangan magpakita ng itsura, it's all about the music. Kaso yung mga tao, binaliktad ung sitwasyon tapos ginawang uso ang mga masks at jumpsuits nila. It stopped becoming about the music and even the record company marketed this look in order to increase profit, kaya the music suffered. When they came back in 2004 with the new album, makikita na nagbago na ang musika nila. Halatang pinagbuhusan ng effort at time para focused lang sila sa music mismo. Hanggang ngayon ay nagm-masks parin sila at uniforms, nag-iba na ang itsura ng mga ito pero the purpose is still the same, to keep the focus on the music and not on the image. There are several other examples like this not only in music. Bakit kaya napakaimportante ng image sa atin, lalo na mga teenagers. Obserbahan nyo ang mga kamag-anak nyo na matatanda na, they don't care anymore about how they look in public or what other people will say about their decisions, tunay na pinaninindigan nila ang sariling pananaw at sariling desisyon. Surely there will come a point in time where we will outgrow the need to take image over practicality, pero cguro mas maigi kung pagisipan na natin ngyon, that we should make the right choices all the time. |
