American: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WSHLNAL ************************************************************************** SEASON BEGINS IN TWO WEEKS Download your league files and begin creating your computer managers as they're due on October 21st. The first block of games will need to be submitted by Wednesday, November 3rd. Please double-check your team's roster. It's much easier to make the corrections before the managers come pouring in since they could become invalid if someone is using your player if they're mistakenly placed on someone else's team. Still calling for team logos, color choice and rink images. If you don't have one, someone might be able to help you find one, but they can't if you don't say something. ************************************************************************** STEP-BY-STEP WSHL PROCEEDURES Just a reminder on how things work in the WSHL. 1. Download the league files at Yahoogroups.com. World League - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WSHLWL/files North American League - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WSHLNAL/files 2. Unzip the file(s) to your "SOMH\Data" directory. 3. Start your SOMH game. 4. Select the league, i.e. 2004-05 NAL. 5. Select your team, i.e. Inside Shots 6. Pull down the "Team" menu and select "Computer Manager" or have the program "Generate Computer Manager" for your initial manager. Then edit the manager to your liking. See below for manager details. 7. Export your manager by going to the "Team" menu and selecting "Export Computer Manager." 7a. When exporting your manager, you'll be asked for a lockout code. Hit "Enter" if you don't want one. If you input one, write it down so you don't forget it. If you have a code, you'll be asked for it every time you access your manager. 7b. Save your manager in location that you can remember. I'd suggest creating a folder in your main SOMH directory just for computer managers. I'd then suggest a separate folder for each team if you wish to keep a copy of every manager. Using team initials can help you index them. 8. E-mail your manager to Mike Webb along with the following information: your lockout code (if you use one), and your line orders by period. 9. When all the managers are submitted, Mike will repost the league file with all the managers loaded. You'll then need to download the league file for a second time. 10. If you want, edit your manager for your home games and then play your games. 10a. Feel free to lose all your games against the Seattle Tsunami. =) 11. E-mail your home game results to the league sub-list (WL or NAL). Include the box score and export file. 11a. The box score if you don't save it yourself will be located in your "SOMH\PRINT" directory with a name using your opponent's initials, vs your team's initials, the date of the game (year, month, day) and the text extension. 11b. The export file is located in your "SOMH\EXPORT" directory with the name using your opponent's initials, vs your team's initials, the date of the game (year, month, day) and the "EXP" extension. 12. Repeat from step #1 after Mike updates the league file with all the played games. ************************************************************************** COMPUTER MANAGER DETAILS To insure that there are fewer mistakes in the first block of managers, here are some reminders and hints. 1. You must have 2 goalies, 12 forwards and 5 defensemen dressed. There is an additional 1 player that can be a forward or defenseman. A total of 18 skaters and 2 goalies are suited up for each game. 2. For the first two periods, there is no double shifting for forwards. In the third period, one forward may double shift. 3. For all periods, ONE defenseman may double shift. A defenseman may only double shift once. 4. Players may only play their carded positions, with a few exceptions: forwards may play defense if rated to play the point during a power play, and centers may play the wing during shorthanded and 4 on 4 situations. 5. Forwards playing the point may play on PP#1 if they are rated '**'. If they are rated '*' they may only play the point on PP#2. 6. Goalies may be pulled or switched, but remember that we are using goaltender fatigue. Be sure that if your goalie is pulled, he isn't being over fatigued. 7. Overtime lines leave the center position empty. Centers may play on the wing. One forward and one defenseman may double shift once. Use three different forward lines and pairs of defensemen. COMPUTER MANAGER EXAMPLE Line order by period Period 1 - Line 1, 2, 3, 4, Pair 1, 2, 3 Period 2 - Line 1, 2, 3, 4, Pair 1, 2, 4 Period 3 - Line 5, 6, 7, 8, Pair 1, 2, 5 Overtime - OT 1, 2, 3, Pair 1, 2, 3 Line set-up by forwards and defensemen Forward Lines Line 1 LW-1, C-1, RW-1 Line 2 LW-2, C-2, RW-2 Line 3 LW-3, C-3, RW-3 Line 4 LW-4, C-4, RW-4 Line 5 LW-1, C-1, RW-1 Line 6 LW-2, C-1, RW-2 Line 7 LW-3, C-2, RW-3 Line 8 LW-4, C-3, RW-4 3-man PK Open, C-1, Open PK 1 LW-1, Open, RW-1 PK 2 LW-2, Open, RW-2 4-man PP LW-1, Open, RW-1 PP 1 LW-1, C-1, RW-1 PP 2 LW-2, C-1, RW-2 OT 1 LW-1, Open, RW-1 OT 2 LW-2, Open, RW-2 OT 3 LW-3, Open, RW-3 Defense Lines Pair 1 LD-1, RD-1 Pair 2 LD-2, RD-2 Pair 3 LD-3, RD-1 Pair 4 LD-3, RD-2 Pair 5 LD-3, LD-1 (if LD-1 can also play RD) PK 1 LD-1, RD-1 PK 2 LD-2, RD-2 PP 1 LD-1, RD-1 PP 2 LD-2, RD-2 Can't decipher the code? There are 18 skaters and two goalies. In the example, each position has a player assigned a number based on the initial line they play on, LW-1 stands for #1 Left Wing. The missing player could be a defenseman or a forward, but in this example, the missing player does not play on any line in any situation. ************************************************************************** NORTH AMERICAN PRESEASON TOURNAMENT Four teams volunteered to practice in a fun preseason workout tournament. Each team comes from the Eastern Conference, Sittler Division, but more amusing is the fact that three of the teams are run by managers named Mike. Now how's that for some confusion! So far the Inside Shots have steamrolled over their opponents. Chances are good that they will be seeded #1 overall and face the sputtering Wellington Dukes. The Dukes may have motivational problems stemming from their absent coach and general manager, Steve Izumi. For the relocated Lexington Thoroughblades, the tournament provides their new coach a chance to see how to construct and manage a team in the fast paced WSHL. After several attempts, they set their sights on surpassing the top ranked Inside Shots. Situated in the middle are the Kent Kounty Killer Kittens. Their only two losses came against the Shots. They'll need some help if they want the top seed. A: No, you must still dress 18 skaters. If you don't have 18 skaters, your manager and the game will post an error stating that you are a man short. Got a question that you think needs an answer in the Newsletter, e-mail me and just ask! ************************************************************************** NORTH AMERICAN LEAGUE SCHEDULE - BLOCK 01 (10/25/04-11/07/04) 10/25/2004 BWK at CAL IOW at RDA SEA at NHH LEX at INS KCO at KKK KIT at WEL 10/26/2004 RDA at CAL NHH at IOW WCE at SEA KKK at KCO INS at WEL LAB at LEX 10/27/2004 CAL at WCE RDA at IOW NHH at BWK INS at KKK KCO at LAB WEL at LEX 10/28/2004 BWK at IOW CAL at RDA SEA at WCE LEX at WEL KIT at INS LAB at KCO 10/29/2004 IOW at NHH WCE at RDA BWK at SEA KKK at KIT WEL at INS LEX at KCO 10/30/2004 RDA at NHH SEA at BWK WCE at CAL INS at LEX KIT at KKK WEL at KCO 10/31/2004 CAL at BWK IOW at SEA NHH at WCE KCO at KIT LAB at WEL KKK at INS 11/01/2004 BWK at WCE CAL at NHH RDA at SEA KKK at LAB KIT at LEX KCO at WEL 11/02/2004 NHH at CAL SEA at RDA WCE at IOW LEX at KIT KCO at INS WEL at LAB 11/03/2004 IOW at WCE RDA at BWK BWK at NHH INS at LAB KKK at LEX KIT at KCO 11/04/2004 CAL at SEA IOW at CAL LAB at KIT WEL at KKK 11/05/2004 SEA at IOW WCE at BWK NHH at RDA LEX at LAB INS at KIT 11/06/2004 LAB at KKK ************************************************************************** WORL LEAGUE SCHEDULE - BLOCK 01 (10/25/04-11/07/04) 10/25/2004 ARR at SSS HSB at IBI SAG at KOD AFS at OMA FPF at MON OTT at SUF 10/26/2004 IBI at SSS KOD at HSB SAS at SAG MON at FPF OMA at SUF PEO at AFS 10/27/2004 SSS at SAS IBI at HSB KOD at ARR OMA at MON FPF at PEO SUF at AFS 10/28/2004 ARR at HSB SSS at IBI SAG at SAS AFS at SUF OTT at OMA PEO at FPF 10/29/2004 HSB at KOD SAS at IBI ARR at SAG MON at OTT SUF at OMA AFS at FPF 10/30/2004 IBI at KOD SAG at ARR SAS at SSS OMA at AFS OTT at MON SUF at FPF 10/31/2004 SSS at ARR HSB at SAG KOD at SAS FPF at OTT PEO at SUF MON at OMA 11/01/2004 ARR at SAS SSS at KOD IBI at SAG MON at PEO OTT at AFS FPF at SUF 11/02/2004 KOD at SSS SAG at IBI SAS at HSB AFS at OTT FPF at OMA SUF at PEO 11/03/2004 HSB at SAS IBI at ARR ARR at KOD OMA at PEO MON at AFS OTT at FPF 11/04/2004 SSS at SAG HSB at SSS PEO at OTT SUF at MON 11/05/2004 SAG at HSB SAS at ARR KOD at IBI AFS at PEO OMA at OTT 11/06/2004 PEO at MON ************************************************************************** Important Dates October 21st - Computer Managers Due for block one!
