Campbell and Kodiak need to finish game seven. ************************************************************************** CONFERENCE FINAL REVIEW The North American League wrapped up their conference finals first with the Iowa Wolves sweeping the Red Deer Avros. Red Deer was too wrapped up watching their NHL counter-parts marching to their conference finals in a six game series against Detroit. Said Jarome Iginla, "Sometimes people forget that we're fans of the game and can get a little sidetracked. Though Iowa's a very tough club and deserved to move on." In the east, the Moose were on the loose as they thumped the Inside Shots in six games. There was no stopping Labrador's top line of Primeau, Rucchin and Palffy. Ziggy earned top recognition by scoring a point in every game and ending the series with six goals and six assists. If Iowa is to have any shot at winning the cup, they'll have to find a way to keep Palffy away from the puck. For the two year old World League, the Monarch Lions will once again compete in the finals. They slugged out a seven game series against the third seeded Ottawa Axemen. While the Lions never trailed in the eastern conference finals, it took them four games to finally put the Axemen away. Ottawa dropped the first three games before rattling off 17 goals in three games to win two games by one goal, and a third by a three. In the final seventh game, Ottawa spotted Monarch a three goal lead before turning on their jets to close to within one goal. They would eventually fall short because the Lions kept them away from a shaky Kolzig who only saved half of his goalie ratings. Not pulling their goaltender in the final minute of play may have cost the Axemen a chance in the finals and to be the first team to ever come back trailing 3-0 in a series. Who the Lions will face in the finals will be determined in a game seven between the Campbell River Canucks and Kodiak Attack. While the Canucks took an early two games to none lead, Kodiak attacked to tie the series not once, but twice. The key to the series seems to be the play of young goaltending sensation, Roberto Luongo. When on top of his game, Campbell River skates to victory. For Kodiak, defense is the key towards advancement, because when they hold the Canucks to three or fewer goals, they win. ************************************************************************** WELCOME OUR NEW MEMBER! The results are in and the winners are Hartford in the NAL and Saskatoon in the WL. The teams hit hardest in each lottery were Kentucky (dropping 5 places) and Peoria (dropping 2 places). Just a reminder about the draft, the lottery results only affect the first round. In the other rounds, the winner of the Cup drafts last, followed by the second place finisher, then the teams as they were elminated in the playoffs, ties defer to points in the standings, and finally the non-playoff teams by regular season standings. For more information about this, read the WSHL constitution. When the North American League playoffs are complete, I'll post the draft order for the NAL, including any traded picks. A current list of draftable players for the NAL is located at the Newsletter Archive web site. The list will change when teams cut down to 14 players + up to 3 ROR players. I know that it takes time to do this, especially for the managers who look at the off-season as a time to step away from the game, or who only want to play the games, but to my eyes, these little things help to build a foundation which can make the WSHL a great league. Download the league file 1a. World League - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WSHLWL/files 1b. North American League - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WSHLNAL/files 1c. Use your e-mail, Mike sends them to the league mailing lists. 2. Unzip the files into your SOMH/DATA folder, overwriting if necessary. Make sure that SOMH is not running. 3. Start SOMH 4. Create a computer manager and export it. 5. Send your unzipped road manager to Mike and/or your league 6. Wait for Mike to release an updated league zip with the bi-week's road managers. 7. Download the league file 7a. World League - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WSHLWL/files 7b. North American League - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WSHLNAL/files 7c. Use your e-mail, Mike sends them to the league mailing lists. 8. Unzip the files into your SOMH/DATA folder, overwriting if necessary. Make sure that SOMH is not running. 9. Start SOMH 10. Play your home games. 11. Save your home boxscores and export files. 12. Send your unzipped home boxscores and export files to your league mailing list. Do not send them to the general list! WSHL Games List (WL): WSHLWL@yahoogroups.com WSHL Games List (NAL): WSHLNAL@yahoogroups.com ************************************************************************** PLAYOFF PRIMER With the playoffs starting, the teams that made it will have to do some things that the others will not. 1. Download the playoff game files once Mike has posted them. They'll be located in their proper league mailing list yahoo groups.com location. This should be fairly normal since we've been doing it all year. 2. Place the unzipped league files in your SOMH/DATA directory. 3. Start your SOMH game and create your manager, but there are some additonal guidelines you'll need to follow. 3a. Overtime in the playoffs is 5 on 5, not 4 on 4. 3b. Line combinations follow 3rd period rules, this means you may double shift ONE forward. 3c. Defensemen double shifting in overtime uses the same defenseman for each overtime period. Unrealistic, but it's all we can to do. 4. Player usage is more limited in the playoffs than the regular season. 4a. Goalies are limited in games per series to their fatigue rating. 4b. A goalie must have started in 10 WSHL games during the regular season. 4c. Forwards and defensemen are limited to play in a number of games equal to their NHL games divided by 10, rounding up all fractions. Any forward or defenseman with 60+ games may play any number of games. 4d. Check your regular season over-usage. Players who were played beyond their NHL games played, may be suspended for 1-3 games, based on the number or games they were over-extended. Players with 70 or more NHL games played are excused from this rule. 5. Play each game individually, importing the road exports to keep the statistics as accurate as possible. This also means that you should allow the road team to send a new manager after each game is played, i.e. after playing game one, ask if your opponent wants to send a new manager for game two. 6. Importing game results requires that you download the export file that is sent with the box score. Put it in your SOMH/IMPORT folder. Start the SOMH game if it isn't already running. Select the playoff for the league and then pull the STATISTICS menu down. Choose the IMPORT GAME RESULTS option. A box will appear with the exported game results in the small window. Check the game and hit the IMPORT button. The game should inform you that 1 game has been successfully imported. Then you can go play your next game after loading the new road manager. A: Yes, the commissioner has set a deadline of two days per game. This means that each series has a maximum of two weeks to play their games.
