The Chicago Cougars disband, only to be reformed as a third expansion team, the Chicago Wolves. The two other expansion teams to join the league are the Barbary Coast Whalers, and the Dakota Mustangs. Each team selected ten players which came off the existing established teams and Chicago's former roster. With the first overall pick, Chuck Drive selected Mike Modano! Daniel Alfredsson went next, followed by Sergei Fedorov. See below for the full list of players. The First days of live drafting are complete. I unfortunately don't have a complete list of players drafted for the World League, but managed to find the first round selections. If you'd like to see the results of the North American Draft, they are posted in the wshltwo yahoogroups files section and at my temporary website: http://www.geocities.com/lugnutgm/ October 22nd was proposed for the North American League's second live draft day. Kevin Webber thus far is the only one to object to this date. There have also been objections to the 31st as Halloween parties and trick-or-treats come first! But from the looks of things, pencil in Wednesday as the night to wrap up the North American League's dispursion draft (9 PM EST/6 PM PST). ************************************************************************** Important Dates October 22 - 2nd day of North American Draft, 9 PM EST/6 PM PST Early November - Start of WSHL season. ************************************************************************** Open Ice By Chuck Drive Minutia from my skewed perspective...hey Dallas, nice jerseys...seriously, make more money off your fan base...then you can shovel it Hatcher's way as one of the dirtiest players in the league deserves it...Colorado Yankees best of luck this season...Sharks, stop...just stop. Kudos to the commish for allowing a great expansion draft to make for competitive teams-that being said, I hope I don't gaffe it up this season. A: No, niether the North American nor World Leagues will use injuries this year. The injury system in the SOMH game isn't very reliable, nor is it accurate. Q: Playing requirements for the post season, what are they for skaters? A: For the post season, skaters with 60 or more NHL games played, may play in any number of post season games. Dany Heatley (when not in jail), played 77 NHL games last season. He could play every game in each WSHL playoff series. For players with fewer than 60 games played in the NHL, they may play a number of games in each series equal to their NHL games played divided by ten (rounding up at .5+). Using Eric Daze as an example, he played 54 NHL games, so he could play five post season games in each series. Had he played 55 games, he'd be eligable to play six games per series. Q: Okay, I understand about the players, what about goaltenders? A: The rule is different for goaltenders. In order to be eligable to play in the post season, a goaltender must have started a minimum of 10 regular season games. In each series, a goaltender may play a number of games equal to his fatigue rating. Patrick Roy for example has a fatigue rating of nine, allowing him to play in every game in each series.
