GLOSSARY OF MANAGEMENT TERMS
The word "Management" has as many definitions as its concepts and it is sometimes used interchangeably with the word "Administration". The main distinguishing feature between the two words is in their usage. While the word "Administration" is mainly used for government and other public service institutions, the word "Management" is mainly used for business enterprises. It is against this background that this book provides the user with the definitions of many words and terms that are commonly in use in all fields of management (and to some extent, administration) in both the public and the private sectors. Because of the very important role Information Technology plays in the world today, the book also contains definitions of words and terms being used in computer and mass communication management.
The words and terms are defined or explained in clear and simple English in order to make it easy to read and simple to understand, for management practitioners, public and private sector employees, lecturers and students of Management and related courses. The main words and terms are written and explained in normal fonts while example sentences are provided (where possible and appropriate) in italics in order to show how the terms and words are used in context. Some of the words and terms may have other meanings when used in other contexts, therefore their definitions in this book mainly relate to their usage in management.
