DIKKO DYNASTY

His Royal Highness, the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Muhammadu Dikko ascended to the Katsina Throne in 1906. His son, Alhaji Sir Usman Nagogo succeeded him in 1944. Alhaji Sir Usman Nagogo's son, Alhaji Dr. Muhammadu Kabir Usman, succeeded his father in 1981. The Dikko family is therefore 100 years on the Katsina Throne this year (2006).
No one will doubt the fact that Sarkin Katsina Alhaji Muhammadu Dikko had established a Dynasty that could, without any iota of doubt, be said to have given birth to "Modern Katsina".  The Dynasty led Katsina into stardom and prominence. From British Colonisation in the 1900's to Independence in the 1960's, no Emirate in Northern Nigeria had contributed as much as Katsina Emirate in the development of the Northern Region in particular and the Nigerian Nation in general.
The First College which produced the first set of leaders in Northern Nigeria was established in Katsina in 1921.  The first Pharmacy School, the first Treasury and the first Polo Club in Northern Nigeria were all established in Katsina.  The Emirate also produced the first Northerner to become a Federal Minister, the first Northerner to hold Military Political Office, the first Hausa man to become an Army General, the first Nigerian to broadcast on an international radio station, the first Northern Civil Engineer, the first Northern Chartered Accountant, the first female Hausa Doctor, the first Northern Veterinary Doctor, the first Northern Permanent Secretary, the first Nigerian Traditional Ruler to officially visit England, the first modern day Nigerian Emir to perform the Holy Pilgrimage to Mecca, the first two Northerners to become Lawyers, the first Northerner to become Chief Justice of Nigeria, the first Nigerian to travel for the Hajj by motor vehicle, the best Polo player in Nigeria, the best Polo team in Nigeria, the youngest Nigerian Ambassador, the first Minister to move to Abuja from Lagos, the best Horse racing Jockey in Nigeria, the most famous sports gallery in Nigeria, etc, etc.  Today, as a prominent centre of learning, Katsina has again led Nigeria in the establishment of the first Islamic Community owned University in the whole of the West African Sub-Region.
All the achievements recorded by the Katsinawa (Katsina People) in the last century were under the forthright leadership of the Dikko Dynasty.
This book relates the background of the Dikko family, their roles in Katsina before and during the 1804 Jihad and their achievements since assuming the mantle of Katsina's leadership 100 years ago. It also gives a brief on the prominent District Heads and Households that worked together with the Dikko family to achieve resounding successes. The book equally gives an insight into Katsina's history since the Hausa State days around 993 AC to the year 2006
