He reached the rank of Oberstleutnant while flying with JG 54 and became Geschwaderkommodore of JG 1.
Born on March 17, 1917, in Meissen/Saxony , he was awarded the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords for his 206( 177 western, 29 eastern) victories. He was killed in action on October 8, 1943 over Nordhorn,Germany.
