Reached the rank of Oberleutnant while flying with 6./ JG 54.
On May 9, 1942 he achived his 47th victory, which earned him the Knight's Cross. On September 30, 1942 he was awarded the Oak Leaves for his 100th kill. He went missing over Lake Llmen on March 6, 1943.
His final total was 152 victories, all in the East.
