Reached the rank of Major, shooting down 115 enemy aircraft in 400+ flown missions. The highest award conferred was the Ritterkreuz des Eisernes Kreuzes mit Eichenlaub, Schwertern und Brillianten (the first airman to be awarded so). Died on a flight to Berlin, in order to attend Udet's funeral, 11/1941.
