Unfortunately, since this match was both on the road and not on television, I didn't see the match, and so can't comment on it. However, a several positive trends are continuing for Atlanta's only first place team. 1. Charmaine Hooper's early goal is continuing the trend of increased early offensive activity with more players getting involved in the scoring. 2. The defense yet again pitched a shutout. That makes five shutouts in six matches. Atlanta has only surrendered one very controversial goal, while no other team in the league has surrendered fewer than five, and only one other fewer than eight! 3. Atlanta has now taken over sole possession of first place. Can we say that of the Falcons, Hawks, Thrashers, or even the Braves? Nope. Only the Beat.
Saturday evening, I hope the Beat get the raucous homecoming they deserve. Be sure, I will be there when they play our neighbors from Carolina. Not only are the Beat coming back from a successful road trip, but they are playing a team that should become a natural rival for the Beat as Carolina is only a five hour drive from Atlanta
