Descriptions
Characteristic Cashew nut is one kind of dicotyledonous because there are 2 cotyledons in one seed. It’s one kind of monoecism and gymnosperm because the seed is not cover by the fruit.
Leaf The Shape of the leaf is oval; the size is 8–22 × 5–13 cm.
Stem The stem can grow until 12 m and there are many branches which become the places where the leaf, flower and fruit grow/exist. There is cambium in the stem so it cans increase in size.
Root The root is tunggang because it’s one kind of dicotyledonous.
Flower The flower is small and grows in the last part of the branch; there are around 5 petals in one flower. The color is white-pink.
Fruit Actually the real fruit is the seed or ‘mete’. The fruit that we always see is ‘Buah Semu’ and usually the color is green, yellow and red.
Reproduction The reproduction is sexual and using pollination by the insect. This plant doesn’t use pollination by wind because the smell of the flower is good and there is much nectar so it can attract the insects. But, the reproduction can be with vegetative.
Habitat This plant lives in tropic area with enough water and sunlight. The temperature is around 15-25oC minimally and 25-35oC maximally. But, the best temperature is 27oC because the plant will grow well and more productive. The humidity is 60-80%, the pH is 6.3-7.3 and around 1-1200 m above the sea.
Dispersal
Utilized by local community
Usually the local community in that village consumes the young leaf as ‘lalap’. They also consume the fruit and the seed (mete). Usually they burn or fry the mete. The stem is used for ‘kayu bakar’.
