When Lucky drove Maxie back home,he whispered to her,"I really enjoyed our date tonight." "Me too,"Maxie said to him. "I hope we can do this again really soon." "I hope so,too"Lucky said sincerely. "I'll give you a call tomorrow. Bye,"he said as she walked to her door. "Bye,Lucky."she called. "Hey,Maxie?" "Yeah"she said. "I love you." Maxie melted on her front step. "I love you, too."she said. Lucky smiled at her, then drove off. Maxie walked inside, not believing the wonderful night that she had. It was the best night of her life. She was so preoccupied with her own thoughts, she didn't hear the footsteps behind her.
"Who do you love?"came Felicia's question, nearly causing Maxie to jump out of her own skin. "Mom!"Maxie exclaimed,"You nearly gave me a heart attack. What are you doing home so early? You were supposed to be in Texas for another week." "I decided to come home early. Georgie is going to stay for the rest of the summer. Grandma said it was fine with her. Now,who do you love?"she asked again. "Lucky. I love Lucky."Maxie said firmly. "We just had our first date. And he loves me too. He told me so." Felicia looked taken aback. "I think you better tell me what is going on here, young lady." So Maxie proceded to tell her mother about the attack, the sparring session, and the date. Felicia was surprised, to say the least. She was glad that Lucky had rescued her daughter, but she was unsure of them dating. "Honey,"she began,"I honestly think it would be best if you didn't go out with Lucky on anymore dates. You might get hurt." Maxie leapt up off the couch."But Mom,"she said,"I love him." Tears began to run down her cheeks.
The next day,Felicia was reading her latest reports. She had hoped that Maxie would be a little more reasonable this morning. She knew that her coming home early was a surprise for Maxie. Little did Felicia know,in a few minutes, the biggest surprise of all would show up. Maxie came downstairs, her eyes still a bit sore from crying herself to sleep. "Morning"felicia said, looking up from her papers. "Have you thought about what I said last night?" "No"Maxie said defiantly,"and I won't change my mind, either." Felicia sighed. "Maxie, please just try to understand me. You know as well as I do,there is always something that is going on with the Spencers, they are always in trouble with the Cassidines. I don't want you to get hurt." Maxie faced her mother. "Dad was always in danger. Did you stop loving him because of that?" Felicia looked down, knowing Maxie was right. "No,I didn't,and you know that I still love him. But I also loved you and your sister too much to let you get caught in the crossfire. As much as it hurt,I had to leave your father to protect you." "I know that,Mom."Maxie said softly. "But I love Lucky and I want to stick by him. Please just let me be happy." Before Felicia could say anything, the doorbell rang. "We'll finish this up later."she told Maxie. She got up to answer the door.
Maxie didn't hear anything for about two minutes. She walked into the living room to find her mother's mouth in a perfect O. Just then, she saw who was at the door, and was in complete shock. "Hi,girls!"Frisco Jones said, holding his arms out to give them a hug. "Daddy's home!"
