All
pieces are hand thrown with a groggy stoneware clay. While on the wheel
the initial decoration is applied using a moulding on the outer surfaces.
The piece is then turned and cut with prepared sections of decorative panels
added. All roulettes and press moulds used are designed by Lucy and add
the finishing touches to the decoration.
When
the piece is leather hard the coloured slips are added to the outer surfaces
to obtain the coloured stone glaze textures. After the basic firing either
a coloured stone glaze or transparent glaze is applied. The piece is then
reduction fired to 1280°, this draws the iron from the clay and leaves
a speckle on the glaze.
The
nature of the clay, the glaze and firing techniques ensure that each piece
is totally unique.
