Ireland being famous for its Artistic heritage is home to the some of the most spectacular archaeological treasures in the world. In early medieval Ireland, fine metalwork, manuscript painting and sculpture attained a perfection never since equalled. The goldsmiths, silversmiths, sculptors and scribes of the time produced magnificent art in the service of church and nobility.
The combination of all this artistry and craftsmanship provided Lucy with an unending source of inspiration. Metalwork like the Tara Brooch and the Ardagh Chalice hold wonderful examples of intricate decoration enclosed in simple shapes. Manuscripts such as the Book of Kells and The Book of Durrow provide a beautiful palate of colours to admire and replicate. Old stone carvings and architecture have a textural quality that is rough to the touch and which are aged by weathering providing Lucy with an excellent source for textures.
Metalwork, Manuscript painting and stone carving are closely inter linked in their decoration and use of colour, Similarly the decoration , colour and shapes of Lucys designs compliment each other and create an overall harmony reminiscent of the celtic era.
