Houston Broadway Theater , being controlled by America Art Inc., began modestly in June 1969 with the original tour of 'Cabaret'. While man was landing on the moon, Joel Gray was immortalizing the role of 'Emcee' and the song 'Wilkommen'. To most broadway-goers, the name Houston Broadway has become synonymous with quality musical theater. Besides being equipped with one of the biggest and most modern proscenium theaters in Texas, the theater has an orchestra pit with a total seating capacity of 1000. Houston Broadway hosts professional theaters and dance companies throughout the year. Created with children's theater in mind, this theater's design offers an unusual floor plan for seating and performances. Transformed into an intimate music hall with private tables for the 'Cabaret' and into a theater-in-round for the 'Fantastics', this place is ideal for bringing the stage and the audience together in one space. The erosion of the performing arts by television in the 1980s is slowly coming to an end and art lovers are thronging back to the Broadway, tired of the lack of live and dynamic creativity in the silver screen. Today's art lover has become very choosy and discerning and would rather patronize theaters with a reputation for hosting good plays. This is where Houston Broadway is clearly ahead of other theaters in Texas Area. Over the years we have hosted musicals like DreamGirls, The Music Man, Peter Pan, and Cats. Keeping up with this tradition, this year we have started with three fresh, new Tony winners: Aida, Titanic, and Ragtime.
Houston Broadway Theater enjoys excellent relations with all the American Art companies, this coupled with our excellent facilities provide an opportunity to all the art lovers to savor the creativity of a Broadway.
