CONSTITUTION

Article I: Name of Organization
The official name of this organization shall be Color Guard.

Article II: Purpose of Organization
The purpose of this organization is to promote the betterment of all color guard skills to anyone who wishes to learn.

Article III: Membership
Membership in this organization is open to all Longwood students and will not be restricted on the basis of disability, ethnicity, gender, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation or political affiliation.  A membership may be revoked if there has been an honor code violation.  A student may be asked to leave the organization if there has been a violation of the judicial board or honor board policies

Article IV: Officers
Captains/ co-captains and section leaders will be elected by a majority vote of the general membership.  The candidate that receives the majority vote will be elected captain of the organization. The two runners up will be elected section leaders.  In the event of a tie for captain, the two candidates will be elected co-captains and the runner up will be a section leader.  A treasurer will be elected by a majority vote.
A. President
� Lead rehearsals.
� Responsible for organizing or finding someone to organize any extra rehearsals, fund raisers, etc.
� Maintain contact with all members.
� Any extra work that is needed.
B. Vice President
� Assist the President with all their duties.
C.   Secretary
� Responsible for maintaining and updating the contact list.
� Sending out emails to members if any information is needed to be sent out.
� Designing and posting fliers for meetings and practices.
� Any other paperwork that is needed.
D.   Treasurer
� Handle all money for the organization.
� Plan and execute any fundraisers.
E. Judge
� Make sure all actions done by the Color Guard are equal and fair according the AIA and Longwood University policies.
� If an injustice has occurred the judge is required to approach the officers so that the problem can be set right.
F. Historian
� Will document the competitions, practices, and other events Longwood Color Guard participates in.
An officer may be removed from office if a majority of the members belonging to the organization feel the officer is not upholding their duties as an officer or there is an honor board or judicial board violation.  In such case there will be a re-election.

Article V: Adviser
The adviser shall be a full time faculty or staff member at Longwood University.  The adviser will assume those responsibilities as outlined in this constitution and/or found in the Longwood University Policies and Procedures.  The adviser will be elected with a majority vote of the members.  In the case of a tie, there will be a revote where the two tied candidates will be voted on.  If the advisor does not meet or hold up the expectations of the organization, there can be a majority vote to remove the advisor and at such time a new advisor will be elected.

Article VI: Meetings
The organization will meet at agreed upon times by the members of the organization.  After the meeting times and location are decided upon, each member will be supplied with a calendar and all members are under the Honor Code to follow the schedule to the best of their ability.  If there is a meeting that a member is not able to attend, they are expected to notify one or all of the officers at least one week in advanced.

Article VII: Finance
All members will be required to buy all equipment necessary to participate in this organization.  Further information on costs will be published and given to the members of this organization.  If any member is not able to pay for the required equipment, it is their responsibility to talk with one or more of the officers to try and make accommodations.

Article VIII: Amendment
If a member of this organization sees fault in this constitution, they may submit an amendment that may or may not be adopted by the organization by a majority vote.  If the amendment is adopted, then it will be added to the constitution for future reference.  All members will be provided with a copy of this organization's constitution upon joining this organization and anytime there after upon request.

Article IX: Ratification
This constitution will become effective upon the approval of the members of this organization by a majority vote.  Concerns for this constitution may be voiced at anytime.


Amendment I: Age Restriction
Under Atlantic Indoor Association (AIA) regulations, no one 23 or older before the weekend of AIA finals is eligible to compete in the Longwood Color Guard.
