Spirit-wave

IFrom June 30th to July 4th of 2003 I was in Manhattan with a special group of singers made up from various church choirs in the Peterborough, Ontario area. We called ourselves the Spirt-wave.com choir and recorded a CD called "Taking It To The Streets". Recording sessions were held in various locations including at Ground Zero, in Central Park, Harlem, Grand Central Station, and outside of St. Patrick's Cathedral. The music was mainly composed by Peter Brown but also included a couple of negro spirituals and a composition by me, "Come On Down To The Tomb" that was recorded in the parish hall of the "Kelly Temple Church of Christ" in Harlem.

It was a very special experience as New York City, and especially the island of Manhattan, is like a minature planet Earth where just about every race, creed, and culture intermingles on a daily basis. Also you encounter every possible socio-economic climate possible - from the financially poor but spiritually rich Harlem to Midtown where residents qualify for rent relief if their income is under $100, 000 (USD).

Spirt-wave is an ongoing charitable endeavour. Follow the link to know more about it and possibly order some of our CD's. As well as CD's, we also do live concerts. Along with a sister organization, humanwave.com, our mission is to raise money for charity but, more importantly, raise people's awareness and empower them to take an active part in doing something good for their fellow man and making "The Big Blue Marble", as Frank Borman circling the moon in 1968 called it, a more caring and loving world.

Here we are in Central Park, on on a set of front steps of a duplex in Harlem, and at Ground Zero.. We recorded "Come On Down To The Tomb" just down the street from these steps. We recorded "Russian Contakion" at Ground Zero. The cross was not intentional. It was originally part of the support beams of the base of the twin towers. There was some talk at the time of incorporating it into the design of the tower that would be built in its place.
