Mudge Meets Some New Friends

One sunny day Mudge was playing on the grass.
Mudge was playing ball.
But Mudge had no one to play ball with.
He was feeling sad and lonely.

Next door there were two dogs named Lucky and Mocha.
Lucky and Mocha were very good pals because they lived together. They really wanted to have another pal.

Next door to Lucky and Mocha's house there were two more dogs. Their names were BB and Henry. BB was an old dog and Henry was a young, playful puppy. Some days BB just wished Henry had some more dogs to play with so she could rest!

Mocha heard another dog. He was very curious so he looked through a hole in the fence and what did he see?

Mocha peeked through the hole and he saw big, beautiful Mudge!

Mocha said to Lucky, "Come here!" Lucky said, "Fine."
"Peek through this hole," urged Mocha. So Lucky looked through the hole.

Lucky said, "Maybe we can ask that dog if we can play with him and his ball."

So Lucky and Mocha went over to introduce themselves to Mudge. They said, "Hi. Our names are Mocha and Lucky. What is your name?" "My name is Mudge. Would you like to play ball with me." Mudge said. "Yes," said Mocha and Lucky.

Lucky, Mocha and Mudge played ball together. They wanted two more dogs to play with so that there would be five dogs.

Mudge said, "I have heard a puppy whining in the neighborhood. Do you know where that puppy lives? I bet that pup would like to play ball." Lucky said, " I know where that whining puppy lives. He lives next door to us, on the other side. He lives with a sweet old dog named BB who he tires out every day."

Mocha said, "Oh that is a BIG puppy and very rough. I am not sure I want to invite him to play." "Don't worry," said Mudge, "I use to be a big puppy and now I am a very big dog. I can take care of you. So the three dogs went over to BB and Henry's house to invite them to play ball.

They went over to BB and Henry's house. They knocked on the door and BB pushed the door open. BB said, "Hi I know you two, you live next door to us." "Has that pup been hurting you?" asked Lucky. "No" said BB, "he is just a big puppy." "Would you two like to come over and play ball with us?" asked Mudge.

BB said, "Let me ask Henry." "Henry said, "Sure!" So Henry and BB went over to Mudge's house to play ball with Lucky and Mocha and Mudge. They played ball and then all the dogs went home and went to sleep.
