Ubin Cycling 1

April 18, 2010. Our next trip is a cycling expedition at Pulau Ubin. Our group gets getting bigger! 5 people now! Hahaha. The new addition to the team is Razi. This cycling expedition is just a getaway from our busy life. We do not have anything to achieve. It was just a free and easy cycling trip where we just want to cycle around the island. We only decided to go to certain places after we got a map there. We have very few pictures here. Almost all except for one does not have Razi in them so I believe Razi must have taken all of them. Hahaha! Here are the pictures:

We just got off the ferry from Changi Point and at the jetty. The first thing
that caught Razi's eyes were these 2 little birds on a rock by the sea.

As you cansee here, I'm doing an introduction video of our expedition with
Hilmitaking it. Soon after, we got a map from the nearby Information Kiosk
and our bicycles from one of the shop.

All of us got our bicycles and we decided to stop somewhere to read the
map. This small pond was sighted near to where we stopped.

The clouds were dark initially but it didn't rain the whole day!

I was given the responsibility to be a map reader and navigator. In this
picture, I was discussing with Farhan our 1st destination.

As usual, I will be doing all commentaries

A nice old school style shot by Razi.

On our way to the 1st destination. It's a quarry but I can't remember what
the name is!

We passed by a few traditional kampong houses still standing in Pulau
Ubin. Such a beauty!

I was very determined to be ahead of everybody! With my body bent
forward, I'm set to cycle my way at full speed!

This is the kind of track you'll expect in Pulau Ubin. Ocassionally, you will
cars, vans, small lorries and motorcyles belonging to the islander here
sharing the same track. However, this is not extreme yet!

Our modes of transportation.

Another wildlife caught Razi's eyes again and now he decided to take a
picture of this poor spider.

We finally reached the quarry without much difficulty (not really to some).
This disused quarry are all fenced up.

A photoshoot of 4 out of the 5 explorers.

Another photoshoot for memory's sake.

A nice view of the quarry.

Another view.

And another view.

An award presentation for the cyclist who fell the most. The award goes
to Raihan! (left) Hehehe. He haven't fell yet at this point, but at the end
of the expedition, he fell twice!

Next destination, Chek Jawa Wetlands. Chek Jawa Wetlands is a 100-hectare
wetlands located on the south-eastern tip of Pulau Ubin where you can
see the flora and fauna in mangroves and coastal forest. Cycling is not
allowed in the wetlands. You will have to leave and lock your bicycles at
the bicycle park outside the entrance to the wetlands.

Climbing up the stairs of Jejawi Tower at Chek Jawa Wetlands.

On top of the tower, we striked some funny poses to show that we were
still not tired!

Razi being an ass. He was actually trying to take photos of the girls on
the right!

Razi being an ass again! This time he....

View of the sea from the tower.

The forest next to the sea.

A faraway island.

After taking photos of ourselves and girls, it's time to go down the tower.

The tower is quite a tall one.

And yet another wildlife that had caught Razi's eyes once more. I don't
know what animal this time around.

Me trying to tell everyone I'm still not tired!

Farhan looking good here.

Nipah Palm or Attap Palm.

See a lizard? I think it's dead!

Mangrove.

Finally, Razi is in the picture! The guy on the right, he needs no introduction.

In mangroves, you will find mudskippers.

Cone-shaped roots of the mangrove apple trees.

Nipah Palm again. God's creation is such a beauty!

Didn't know all the climbing and walking can be so tiring!

The boardwalk running along the coast and into the mangrove area.

Bakau trees. They have prop or stilt roots.

We headed back to our bicycles to our next destination, the coastal
area of the wetland.

Dried leaves covered by coastal sand.

A dead tree in the middle of the sea!

Another Bakau Tree by the sea.

Bakau Tree leaves.

After the Chek Jawa Wetlands, we explored the island again. I can't remember where we went to but I do remember cycling past the NPCC campsite and then ended up at Ketam Mountain Bike Park where there are 3 difficulty level for 3 different trails - Blue Square Grade being the easiest, Black Diamond Grade being medium and Double Black Diamond grade being the most extreme. We tried the Blue Square Grade and that is when Raihan fell twice! Hahahaha!

When the day almost came to an end, we cycled back to the bike shop .Hilmi got leg cramp while we were cycling back! Hahahaha! Simply hilarious! After the bikes were returned, we took the ferry back to mainland Singapore. It was very tiring but we enjoyed!
