MODERN SATANISM
by OddFather

There is likely no religious group more misunderstood than the Satanists. Their very name evokes the image of devil-worshipping heathens in the minds of Christians. Ironically, Christianity's "Great Enemy" does not involve (or even acknowledge the existance of) the Christian Satan. While many Satanists are anti-Christian, they are not the dark version of the same religion as is popularly believed.

Satanists DO NOT worship the devil. They do not worship anything. Satanism is a belief in the Self. One seeks to attain the highest state of existance through magick, experience, and knowledge. There is no room for kowtowing to a god. To the true Satanist, Satan is more like a force of nature than an entity. However, acknowledging such a force does not obligate one to worship it.

Modern Satanism really began in 1966 with a man named Anton LaVey. He wrote the Satanic Bible and started what would become the Church of Satan (CoS). LaVey (the Black Pope) is the current head of the CoS. Until LaVey, there was no true organization to Satanism.

LaVey started an Occult revival. His Church flourished, and, as in most religions, internal strife began. In 1975, some on LaVey's actions caused many of the Priesthood of Mendes (the name of the Satanic order of priests) to disavow the Church and resign membership. They then formed the Temple of Set (ToS). The ToS is based on ancient magickal philosophies from many ages in man's history. Set is the Egyptian version of the Prince of Darkness (predating the Christian Satan).

ORBITALS!
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SATANISM
AND WORSHIP OF THE DEVIL
by darker&darker

Satanists hold their ceremonies with the purpose to huild an emotional, controlled energy, also known as magic.

People often confuse devil worshipers and satanists, and that's one major reason to why the satanists have to put up with alot of crap that they don't really deserve. Some people call themselves satanists, and go around cutting themselves with razorblades and knives, dying their hair black, only wearing black clothes, and just simply try to look as scarey as possible. The truth is, that they've often missed the whole meaning of satanism. Satanism isn't about being scary, it's about believing in yourself, and not oppress the instincts you were born with, as the Bible tells us to.

If someone piss you off, do you REALLY want to turn the other cheek?

Hell no. You want to get even. You feel anger, and we all know that if you keep your anger inside, you'll end up seeing a shrink. So let it out. Meanwhile, here's some other satanism/devil worship related stuff to keep you amused:

WHERE DOES THE NAME "SATAN" COME FROM? It comes from "Shaitan" who was kind of a "Black Police" in the Jewish religion.

HOW MANY NAMES DOES SATAN HAVE? Satan is known under alot of names. Here are some of them:
SATAN
LEVIATHAN
BAAL
ISHTAR
MEPHISTOPHELES
THE LORD OF FLIES
HIN
THE DEVIL
ASMODEUS
BEELSEBUB
SATANAEL

Just remember that these names may very well represent more than just another name for Satan.
It might be demons that symbolizes the evil in stories etc etc.

WHERE DOES THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST, 666, COME FROM?
It comes from the Pope's crown, Vicarius Filii Dei. It is said that by some mathematic calculations you can end up with the number 666. This theory finds support in the Holy Bible, but of course, the catholic churh denies it. They have made some calculations on their own and gotten the number 222, but that has no support in the Bible...

We do not claim that this is the one and only truth about Satanism. Satanism comes in many shapes, but this is the least extreme one. As we all know, all religions have extremists, and so does this one.
