Early Learners/Preschoolers
Theme:  Zoo Animals
Zoo Day: We were visited by the Oakland ZooMobile on June 11, 2004!  It was great, the ZooKeeper brought 4 small animals to share with the kids.  The preschoolers had zoo week in preparation for our Zoo Day!  We learned about zoo animals all week; art projects, books, music & movement, all animal related.
I made the kids matching t-shirts (wonders what a printer, computer and internet can do!) and the kids made their own binoculars to search for the animals.  I also purchased pith hats from Oriental Trading Company, dirt cheap!  It was about $120.00 for the ZooMobile to visit, well worth it!  We made a total day of it, I even brought out the jump house, which only comes out on special days!  You may have even seen us in the

See t-shirt (not real clear here on site) but it gives you an idea
I copied the Zoo's logo form their web-site, and above it is "Little Wonders Child Care/Preschool"  below logo is "ZooMobile,  June 11, 2004".  The children loved wearing matching shirts.  Actually, we do a lot of them for holidays and special events!
Oh ,my gosh, that's a big snake baby boy!
Theme:  Luau
Luau Day: This year I put a twist on the usual ocean theme I do.  Rather than learn only about ocean creatures we focused more on the beach and Hawaii.  For the month of August we learned about Hawaii, what we do at the beach, etc.  I also incorportated other preschool activites; Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom, the children made their own  A Day at the Beach books, we learned the hula, made ocean in a bottle or you can do beach in a bottle, etc.
For our Luau the children brought their swim suits and beach towels (trip to the beach in Hawaii), we made flower head bands out of green paper bands and silk flowers, brown paper bag hula skirts, purchased flower leis or you can make your own.  Introduced a fresh pineapple and coconut to touch, smell and taste! And, I had to get them Aloha shirts, couldn't resist-too cute!  You can purchase them on-line and on clearence this time of year.  We ate Hawaiian food (somewhat, I wanted them to eat lunch; fried rice and fruit) and went swimming at the beach!  (wading pools).  Should you like to see the kids in actiona and our bulletin board
