A la Cluj cabbage (Varza a la Cluj)

INGREDIENTS:

 

1 medium pickled cabbage

1 onion

750 g minced meat

4 tablespoons lard

1 cup of sour cream

salt, pepper, ½ cup rice

 

PREPARATION:

 

 

Heat 1 tablespoons of lard in a skillet over medium fire and stir-fry the onions, then add minced meat and continue stirring, adding a little bit of water until the meat is done.

Heat another 2 tablespoons of lard and add finely chopped cabbage and a bit of water, stirring continuously for few minutes.

Boil the rice in water with salt until tender.

Grease a cooking pan with 1 tablespoon of lard then put one layer of cabbage, one layer of boiled rice, one layer of minced meat, one layer of sour cream and so on alternatively until all the ingredients are over.

The top layer must be sour cream.

Add salt and pepper to taste and put the pan in the oven at medium hot.
