| URBAN COMMENTARY: October 22, 2005 Mariah Carey stays as queen of the chart with "Shake It Off", the remix is hot and therefore helps keep the song on top. The remix features "is he retired?" Jay Z and Young Jeezy. Creeping up to number two is Bobby Valentino's infatuous song about jeans "Tell Me". The number one song from two weeks ago, "Play" from David Banner slips to number three. The latest entry to the top five is T Pain's "Im Sprung". Newest member to the top 10 is "Run It" from Chris Brown which features Juelz Santana. "Run It" is a strong club joint and a good contender for number one in a few weeks. Top 20 activity is pretty slow with a few notable exceptions. Trey Songz "Gotta Make It" which spent three weeks at number one a month ago falls five spots to 19 from 14. Entering the top 20 for the first time is Three 6 Mafia's latest club banger "Stay Fly". Also new is the third single from Keyshia Cole, "I Should've Cheated" jumps to 20 from 22. Each new song from Keyshia Cole is more popular than the previous and hopefully this one can find its way to the top at some point. Top 30 activity is a little more active this week. First up is "Lighter's Up" from soon to be incarcerated Lil' Kim. The song was a new entry last week and cruises to spot 21 from 29. "Outta Control" from 50 Cent featuring Mobb Deep falls a hefty 6 spots to land at 29 from 23. Falling even harder is Babyface's apologetic "Sorry For The Stupid Things", the song falls seven to 26 from 19. OBITUARIES: Three songs ended there journey last week for this weeks newest entries. First off was Jermaine Dupree's joint "Gotta Getcha". The song spent 14 weeks on the chart and peaked at number five back on September 17. Also never to return is Lyfe Jennings great song "Must Be Nice". This song peaked at spot two back on August 20 and spent a good 20 weeks on the chart. Last but not least is "Make Her Feel Good" from the beautiful Teairra Mari. "Make Her Feel Good" peaked at number 3 September 17 and also spent 14 weeks on the chart. HAPPY BIRTHDAY: When there's death, there's life, and this week's chart is no dissapointment. Starting its first week strong, "Here We Go" from Trina which features Kelly Rowland plows through the chart landing at spot 22. Also new is D4L with "Laffy Taffy", this one lands at 28. "And I" from Ciara comes in at 30 and is her fourth single from her album. AT DEATH'S DOOR: Alright, once in a while, a song spends a good deal of the year rummaging its way through the chart. For my chart, my retire week is at 25, c'mon half a year on a chart is a good run and there comes a time when it must leave to make room for young'uns. This week's prime example comes from Mariah Carey's heartfelt ballad "We Belong Together". Song, I salute you and farewell. May you spend your retirement getting recurrent spins on urban and pop radio. "We Belong Together" started its life May 7 and leaves us October 22, peaking at number one June 25 and stayed there for three glorious weeks. Also possibly falling off the chart could be "Outta Control" from 50 Cent. BAKIN IN THE OVEN: So many songs this time around, which one to choose. Well first off, Mariah Carey is queen of the chart this week. With "We Belong Together" retiring this week, "Shake It Off" at number one this week, you would think there is no more room for her. Not so quick says Mariah, I have released "Dont Forget About Us" and is a definite entry in a week or two. Also making a possible entry would be Sean Paul's dance floor hit "We Be Burnin". |
