ABYSSINIAN

Aby's are a well toned muscular cat of medium-large size with a ticked tabby coat.  They have a charming disposition, a quiet voice, with a gentle, super smoochy nature to the extreme with their owners.

They live to love their people.

They are very intelligent, busy, efficient hunters and love to play hunting games, where you  throw something so they can chase it.   They also come when they're called, love you like a dog - unconditionally and sometimes they think they are a dog. They are the ideal cat if you can't have a dog. I'm so lucky to have both.

SOMALI

A Somali is the busy person's easycare, semi-longhaired cat.

They display a beautiful brush tail, and the body hair is only a little bit longer than the shorthaired Aby.  As a pet cat,  give them a comb when you think of it.  Though the semi-longhaired Somali is shown in the ring with their shorthair siblings they are a registered breed in their own right, with their own breed number and show status, but can be outcrossed to an Aby

TEMPERAMENT

Both the Aby and the Somali share the same intellligent sweet little nature, but always look to have a touch of the wild.  They will curl up with you if they aren't too busy or follow you around the house or garden.  But if they want to cuddle you, no matter what, you have to stop what you are doing and rub noses or they will be on your shoulders wrapped around your neck trying to get you from there. They are very loyal.

Colours

There are three main coat colours that the Aby/Som come in.
Ruddy or Usual
Sorrel or Red or Cinnamon (depending on the country)
Chocolate

They then have a dilute shade of those main colours which:

Ruddy dilutes to Blue
Sorrel dilutes to Fawn
Chocolate dilutes to Lilac

Silvers

What makes the silvers diferent than the coloured coats is the I or Inhibitor gene which cancels the rufous colour of the under coat just leaving the  ticking and tips of whatever colour they may be.

Silver or black/silver are tipped in black so it's Ruddy.
Sorrel/silver are tipped in cinnamon so it's sorrel.
Blue/silver are tipped in blue (grey) so it's blue
and so on

Sometimes the silvers can be rufoused as in having some of the warm ruddy colour on their coats.  To get the best coats of each silvers are bred to silvers and colours to colour.  Silvers bred to coloured coats will lighten the colour and put more rufous on the silver.
