Throw a Tepee Together

tepee.jpg - 30778 Bytes It's a mild spring day, the kids want to be outside playing with me, I am supposed to be cleaning up the garage. Have to get out from under the kids so I gave them something new to do. I dug a very old, very musty tent out of the back of my garage (I was going to do something with this one day) and decided that its time had come.

I hacked a great big piece out of the roof that was still in fairly good shape (it's canvas, why waste it) leaving me with a bunch of weird shaped bits. Then I remembered that I happened to have some long straight branches drying near the woodpile. I lashed them together at the top to form a tripod, draped the canvas over it wherever it would go. Of course, the moment I stood back to admire my effort, my eldest grabbed the canvas and tried to run away with it. He pulled a surprising amount off, and banged me in the head with the tripod before I was able to stop him (little wretch!).

So, I tried again, this time I tied the canvas to the posts by punching a few holes through it and threading garden twine through. It worked, it was sturdy (sorta), the kids loved it, and it took me a whole 15 minutes. They played in it all that day, had lunch in it, and refused to let me take it down for the three days following. I got the garage cleaned out.

Enjoy,
Brett
