The photo is documented by the scoreboard which reads: 2-2 pitch, 2 outs, At Bat: #36 (Carlos Beltran, AL ROY), 7:07 p.m., 9th inning. The scoreboard proves that it is indeed the final pitch.

Visible in the picture is pitcher Todd Jones, catcher Brad Ausmus, batter Carlos Beltran, third baseman Dean Palmer, the entire Tigers' team getting a glimpse of the final pitch, the Tiger Stadium sign (backwards of course) that faces outside the park, and the final pitch in midflight (barely visible in the above photo).
