"And so it begins"--on St. Patrick's Day, as reckoned in North America, in the year CE 2004. In my family we often call it "St. Myrtle's Day" in honor of my Norwegian-American grandmother, who was born on this date in 1900, making her age easy to figure. Then there's the non-canonical St. Urho's Day, observed by local Finnish-Americans on the 16th. I'm not Finnish except through "hereditary osmosis"--a situation I'm not inclined to explain.
