COATS FOR KIDS (and ADULTS)
Collection
Time to start gathering gently used winter coats for at-risk men, women,
children, and infants for the Retirees Association's involvement with
Jersey Cares of
Newark NJ. Many homeless, shelters, and people needing warm
clothes for the winter are in dire need of these garments. Don't throw
your unwanted coats out. If you have children or grandchildren outgrowing
their old coats, donate them. Bring them to a retirees meeting for
collection starting in September 2009 with distribution after Thanksgiving.
For active workers: there will be a collection at the October and November
regular meetings.

NEWS
Election Day - November 3, 2009 -
Democratic Governor Jon Corzine is running for reelection this year.
Please cast your vote for him. Put aside the petty politics of both
parties and be reassured that any decision as to union work being done in New
Jersey, is a top priority with the governor. His interests are in the
working man and the ideals of unionism. As 164 Retirees, our benefits
depend on Governor Corzine's reelection.
Local Union 164 is conducting phone banks and labor walks. Please give
your time for this needed effort to reelect Governor Jon Corzine. Call
Natalie at 201-265-1700.
The Presidential Election had a very successful turnout at the voting
booths. With the Democratic President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe
Biden now in office, their thoughts and decisions are always in favor of Labor
Unions. The House and Senate Democrats have increased in numbers. A proven
fact is, Democrats have unions in mind when voting in respective Houses.
Be proud and confident that unionism will keep you and your families strong.

to get a better overview of HR 676, a bill in Congress. Feel free to
click on many of their links that go into greater detail. It has been endorsed
by the Bergen County Labor and Trades Council, state AFL-CIOs and many trade
locals in New Jersey.
If Single Payer Health Care were in place, Local Union 164 would also benefit as it could only
enhance our current plan. Healthcare for All eliminates the corporate insurance
companies that take 33% of all medical costs FOR PROFIT. One out of six
Americans has NO insurance and that costs all who do, in premiums and
hospital costs. Local Union 164 is fortunate to be self funded, but costs are
rising rapidly in the medical field as it affects each and every one of us,
retired and active members.
