加州出生熊貓 取名美生

【明報專訊】約4個月前在美國加州聖迭戈出生的雄性熊貓，按中國習慣在出生100日的周二命名，取名為「美生」，意謂在美國出生。

「美生」於8月19日在聖迭戈動物園出世，上月底已長出牙齒及學行。牠的父母分別是中國外借給該動物園的高高和白雲。這小熊貓另有一名同父異母姐姐、今年4歲的華美，牠是首隻在美國出世的熊貓。 文﹕路透社

The San Diego Zoo unveiled the name of its 4-month old male giant panda cub, December 16, 2003. It was named Mei Sheng, which translates into 'Born in the USA.' The cub's name, a closely held secret, was suggest by the Zoo's Giant Panda Conservation Team and approved by the China Wildlife Conservation Association. Mei Sheng is the second giant panda cub born at the San Diego Zoo and the first in the Western Hemisphere since 1999.
