REGULAR REPORT Computer By Linda Truex A regular report is the most popular form of report writing. It is a very easy report to type. Notice the heading in this paper. The title is in BOLD and is in ALL CAPS. The sub-heading is in upper and lower case as is the by-line. All the lines in the title lines are centered. PRIMARY USE The primary use of a regular report in the classroom is to type book reports. This report lends itself to character indentification through the use of Side Headings (i.e. PRIMARY USE, SPACING). SPACING Regular reports are always double-spaced; however, the Bibliography Page (i.e. the page that contains the sources for the information in the report) is single-spaced with double spacing between the actual sources. MARGINS The margins for the report are as follows: two inch top margin (start on line 13) for both the first page and the Bibliography Page and a one inch bottom margin. All other pages have a one-inch top and bottom margin. It is best to leave the margin set-up at one inch and just space down extra for the first page and the Bibliography Page. The left and right margins use the machine default, usually one and one quarter inch. FORMATTING The regular report is more casual than the MLA Research Paper and can be typed in different fonts and sizes. It may or may not contain clip art and borders. TITLE PAGE It will have a Title Page that will have a special formatsee page 155 in the textbook for proper format. Approximately two inches from the top (12 single spaces) type the title of the paper, then space down two more inches (12 more lines) and type your name and school name then space down two more inches and type the teachers name and the date. This is only a guideline because all font heights and widths are different. The same amount of space should be left from the title to the center as there is space from the center to the teachers name. PAGE NUMBERING The pages will be numbered at the bottom center of each page in footer or at the top right of each page in a header. There is no number on page one. You may or may not put the word Page preceding the number. SPECIAL FEATURES Bullets, numbers, and special characters may be used to highlight certain sections. If a quotation is more than four lines long, it should be indented and single-spaced. We do not use endnotes or footnotes. |
