During a recent chat, the subject of cheap fun guns came up.
Airguns of such low price can often be frustrating(try to hit anything with a TF 40) or plesantly rewarding, as was my day yesterday.
My tests were finally completed on members of the crosman 760 family. I used various pellets, pump limits, and ranges just to see what these little rifles were capable of.
Their inital preformance indicated good trigger pulls. The charging efforts even to the maximum limits, were not even close to that of my 392 for 4 pumps.Cocking effort was nil. Noise from their report gives an added security buffer when used in residental enviornments.
The 760d Model: Scoped(4X), rested
10m
4 pumps 10pumps
Crosman Pointed 1/4" same
Crosman Super Match 3/16" same
Crosman Premrer Heavy 1/4" same
Beeman Laser 1/2" ----
Crosman W/C 3/16" same
Benjamin domed 3/16" same
Gamo Lead Ball ---- 3/8"

Crosman 664GT:scoped(4X),rested
10m 5 pumps 10 Pump

RWS Meisterkuglen 3/16"
Crosman W/C 1/4"
Crosman Pointed 1/4"
Crosman Super match 3/8"
Daisy W/C 1/2"
Crosman Premiere Heavy ---- 1/2"

30 yards 10 pumps
Crosman Super Match 3/8" clusters
Crosman Pointed 5/8" clusters
Crosman Premier Heavy 7/8" custers
Crosman W/C 1/2" clusters
Daisy W/C 1 1/4" clusters
These results are from hundreds of pellets fired, representing the best of the best. I used different charging levels (4,6,8, and 10) for this test and settled on the best one that applied to the particular rifle, The 664GT seems to like 5 best for a variety of pellets, but 10 seemed the same for accuracy. the little 760D, liked 4 and 10.
Mind you that this test was just for the sake of proving out these "Cheap" guns,(and I wanted an excuse to shoot em a LOT!) I was pretty impressed at what they can do!
Range work at 20 and 30 yards suprised me, as the groups didn't open that much.
Suprising too was the fact that both guns have a taste for the Crosman pointed pellets, and consistantly shot thru the endless 5 shot strings, best using them. Another suprise was that basic Crosman/Copprehead W/C's beat out the Crosman Super Matches during most strings!!!
All in all I had a blast (pun intended) and confirmed my love for these two, they're just fun to shoot!
I know... I have much fancier guns also, but you can't deny that for $24, and $44, at Wal Mart, these guns are a hell of a buy!
