I just tried out a clip on iris and blinder
combo, that PH1 had brought with him from the UK. They
were great. I wasn't at work and online more than an
hour this morning before ordering a set for myself.
Both of these products are designed for pistol
shooters wearing glasses. (Well I suppose you could use
the blinder with a rifle.) So what are these wonder
devices and how do they work. The Clip-on Blinder is just what it says. It clips on to the lense of your non dominant eye and covers it up. So you can shoot with both eyes open but not see anything out of your non-dominant eye. Lots of people like light colored or translucent ones. I am more fond of dark colors. I think it is a personal preference. The Iris is the key to the whole system. There is an iris with a diameter adjustment lever (sort of like the f-stop ring in a camera) that is mounted on a black clip-on blinder. the iris can be moved around the lense to allow you to see through your glasses where you normally look through them while shooting. Everything else is covered. Then you can adjust the opening in the iris to whatever size makes your sights and targets clearest. By looking through the iris, and adjusting the size of the apeture, you are able to adjust your depth of field (how much distance you can keep in focus) For the first time ever I could see my rear sight, front sight and target all in near perfect focus. If you have ever seen those dorky clip on sunglasses that go on over regular glasses you know the clip mechanism in use. If not imagine a springloaded clip that can safely secure things to your regular eye glasses. These also serve to block out everything but the target area.. so you aren't distracted by what is going on around you. More details and a brand specific review to arrive when I get mine in the mail. I just have to say these are the coolest shooting product I have seen in a long time. |
