SQUADLEADER SCENARIOS

The classic infantry combat game from Avalon Hill. It features twelve scenarios evenly split between the Eastern and Western Fronts with the Germans taking on the Soviets and Americans respectively. The scenarios below occupy slots 060 onwards in the SCEN directory.

Streets of Stalingrad

6th October 1941

Germany v USSR

Meeting Engagement

Soviets and Germans attack each other. I've treated it as a meeting engagement. Best played against a human opponent because if it's played vs AI troops that are meant to remain in defensive positions (e.g. The tractor factory) tend to launch inappropriate and suicidal attacks.

This scenario uses the Stalingrad map from the Steel Panthers scenario “The Factory”. I couldn't be bothered doing a faithful Squadleader city map. Life's too short.

The Hedgehog of Piepsk

14th November 1941

USSR v Germany

Soviet Advance

Best played against German AI. The Soviets have a massive advantage in numbers but have to advance across fairly open ground and can end up being cut to pieces by German machine guns. Given the time of year a winter map might be more appropriate.

Hill 621 v1

1st July 1944

USSR v Germany

Soviet Assault

Best played against a human opponent. Again, the Soviets massively outnumber the Germans but have to cross a lot of ground to reach their objective and a skilful German player can decimate their forces long before they reach the hill.

Hill 621 v2

1st July 1944

USSR v Germany

Soviet Assault

As v1 above but the German Pz IVs enter from the north, slightly delaying their entry into the battle. This makes things a bit easier for the Soviets.

Escape From Velikye Luki

12th January 1943

Germany v USSR

German Advance

A small German force attempt to escape the Soviet net around Velikye Luki. Best played against Soviet AI for a tense cat and mouse game ranging across the map.

Afterword: West front scenarios to follow.  Before too long, hopefully.
