We sank a truck!:
"I'm not going to like it here" is all I can say of the Freedom as of now.
Captain Lee is OK, I guess. I didn't have a lot of time to talk to him yet, but he doesn't seem to be hostile or inclined to cause me grief. If anything he maybe a bit too lax. He didnt say anything to the doctor as she staggered out of the hanger obviously nearly falling down drunk. And he handed me my new uniform, formally bringing me in as a crewmember it seems, and sent me on my way with out comment on my shameful display on getting defrosted. Ether things have really changed over the last twenty years, or this ship is more party barge than starship. One thing about the uniform, before I put it on, I'm going to have some pockets put into it! What are these people thinking about!
I found my cabin easily enough, and it is truly a wreck! I understand that someone named Shortly Phuse was my predecessor in the job, and in my new cabin as well. I dont know how he left the ship, but Id guess he didnt take any of his stuff with him considering the debris littering the place. There is a jar of something black sitting in the middle of the desk that looks rather nasty, with the word "punch" scrawled on the paper label stuck to it. I think I may call in a bio team to remove it. I also intend to have a talk to housekeeping before I go near the head. There may be several somethings living in there!
I hadnt been sitting at the terminal going over the ships layout for more than a few minutes when I felt it shiver several times and suddenly the red alert sounded. By this time I was over the fear that cat thing had induced in me, so I found my way to the bridge; and my station. The station is nothing like the old Constellation, or even the slightly newer one on the Tang, but I did finally fumble around and find the shield and the heavy weapons controls.
As of now I can't say if we have been boarded, but we had a rear shield down and some internal damage. The ship that hit us was some sort of new model Ferrengi raider, and it managed to, in just one pass mind you, knock down a shield and disable the engines leaving us nearly helpless. Some ship Im on. Even the old Big C could have done better than that and she was obsolete before I was born!
Anyway while I was struggling with the controls and the people in the Starbase were sitting on their thumbs, the Ferrengi managed to slow down, capture the shuttle and our that little Vulcan girl, then speed away. Makes me shiver to think what may become of her. Likely theyll clip her ears, paint her green and sell her to some pirates or something. At least I may never need to lay eyes on the spawn of darkness that was in the shuttle with her again. As they say, even with the darkest cloud comes a silver lining.
Anyway, I finally managed to gain permission to fire at them when the Captain hit the bridge, (I think the watch officer may have been dozing) but not knowing for sure how far weapon technology had changed in the last twenty years, or the capacity for absorbing damage of the Ferrengi ship, and not wishing to harm our XO, I tried to cripple the Ferrengi ship with blasts from proximity torpedoes. Unfortunately this didn't work, as they were faster than Id guessed, and I only managed to shake them a little bit, and in the process a torpedo damaged a robotic miner. Sort of reminded me of the old 2D movie I saw once about a pink submarine that sank a truck during the Second World War. I bet the Captain is going to be pissed with me. What a way to start a job!
Well the Starbase called just after the torpedo explosions, but not to apologize for letting someone fire on us while we were moored at their station mind you, but to bitch us out for hitting their miner! There they sit on all that scanner ability and firepower and they didnt do a thing, even though they couldnt possibly have missed us getting a photon enema! Youd almost think that they were involved . some . how ..
Anyway, I was going to suggest to the Captain that we could begin pursuit on impulse till the warp drive was fixed, until I noticed that we have another of the cat people, not only on the ship mind you, but on the bridge! It was sitting there at the helm of all places! I just wonder how many of them are running around with hammers in the engine room breaking things as we sit. By the gods there could be hundreds of them on the ship dashing about smashing equipment and maybe even setting explosives! All of them . hungry . drooling ..
I intend to check the repair and damage logs for the ship, when I can. I wonder if my old Captain has anything to do with this! Could all those cat people be working together for her? Could this, Admiral Lardbottem, or what ever, be in on it with them? Could he be a cat himself! I must remain watchful. Conspiracies are everywhere, like green eyes in the dark!
