| Objective: Become an expert of a particular time period in geologic history and create an oral presentation, with visuals, for the class Grouping: Groups may be as large as five and as small as three people as long as there are no more than eight groups in a class. After forming your group, you will decide on the era you wish to become an expert. Everyone needs a job for the project. This needs to be a collective effort. Assign specific parts of the project to each person in the group. Vocabulary: (you need to know and understand these words to do the project) Catastrophic Era Pangaea Extinct Fossil Epochs Find the Answers to the following questions: 1. How many years ago was this era--when did it begin and when did it end? 2. Is there another name for this era? 3. Were animals and plants present in this era? If so, name/list them. 4. What kinds of fossils were found for this era? 5. Did any animals become extinct during this era? If so, why or how? 6. Are there any sub-periods or epochs during this time? If so, names and dates. 7. What catastrophic/major events occurred in this era? 8. Did these events affect the animals or plant life present at the time? 9. What was the climate like and were there any major changes in the climate during this time period? Oral Presentation: * You need to address the answers to the questions you researched. * Create a timeline as one of your visuals. * A drawing or photo of what the earth looked like at the time of the era. * Drawings or photos of life on earth during this era----plant and animal. * Everyone in the group must have a part in the presentation. * Must be at least three (3) minutes long. * Be creative!!! Ideas for a presentation: * A play * Documentary * A story * Poetry * Power Point * Create a "rap" or song * Movie Maker * Use posters or banners Project will be graded with a rubric for each of the following components: 1. Group and research work (rubric #1) 2. The group's oral presentation (rubric #2) 3. The presentation itself. (rubric #3) |
