So.. I'm back. With a rant. About Anime. How Keen. I like Anime. Unfortunately, some people don't understand that. I LIKE anime. I don't LOVE it, like lots of people out there. Sure, I cried when FY ended cuz there was no more, and I talk about DBZ untill people's ears bleed, but if it were to all go away, I'd sigh, turn away, and start playing quake 3, or Half-Life again. I also have certain things I like and don't like about anime. I like that the Japanese don't care so much about profanity, and nudity. The US is full of Prudes. And no matter how much you think you aren't, go watch some anime with a little sibling, and see if you can go through episode 4 of Tenchi Muyo! w/o once even wanting to cover their eyes. Didn't think so. But I degress, I said things Idon't like in anime, didn't I? Well.. we all have our problems with something, right?
What the hell are you doing watching Giant robots fight. Now that I think about it, I never really hated them till I saw them all over the Anime list. Gundam, Escaflowne, Transformers, and all these other mech-based animes. I can't say they're bad. I didn't say the story isn't good. I just hate mechs, and an anime with mechs just isn't an anime for me. I'm going to sit there, and rest my head in my hand, and mutter "Is it done fighting/flying/flipping/posing/figuring out what weapon to use" or go get a coke, and miss someting important, because giant man-shaped robots are annoying. Unfortunately, some people who should understand this about me, don't, and seem surprised when I say it's not my style. I love technology, and I'm going to add a technology section to this page, but Mechs.. I just don't see. I don't get. and I don't like. They're like Power Rangers, only worse, and if it's worse than Power Rangers, then it has to die. ASAP.
And the other thing I dont enjoy? The Past. Everyone else seems infatuated with castles, and knights, and wizards, and stuff. I don't really care for it. I like Slayers, and Fushigi Yuugi. And now, after all the Anime I've seen compared to what I used to watch, Slayers isn't all that. It's got Xelloss, and that's keeping it in a favorite anime spot for the forseeablt future, but w/o that guy, It's a bit drab. That's why I didn't talk up season one much. No Xell. Fushigi Yuugi also takes place in the past. Ancient China. But FY is hard to hate. There was a time, between tape 4 and 5, which It sat on my desk for a month, because I didn't want to watch it, cuz it was based in the past. Finally, I swallowed my pride, and watched it, and finished it, and loved it. But I loved it more for the caracters, and their complexity than the story.. Although, anything that has to do with wishes is cool... I just dont get much out of the past.
So... sorry if it rains on your parades when I list all this present-day to future anime, but aren't hitting MKR, Esca, Lodoss, gundam, and all those other past-based or mech-based anime, but they aren't appealing. If you look back all your life, you're going to trip on something in the future. And as for learning from the past... well... Call me when Hitler is reborn, or the plague rears it's ugly head. I'm watching Lost Universe, Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo, and DBZ.
