Zeta Tau Alpha's National Philanthropy - Breast Cancer Education and Awareness ZTA is devoted to aid in efforts in the fight against breast cancer through education, awareness, research and by promoting breast health. ZTA supports the fight against breast cancer through its education and awareness programs and by teaming up with organizations like Komen for the Cure and Yoplait. In addition to the programs listed here, our chapter holds a fundraiser each semester to raise money for the ZTA Foundation. In April 2007, we held our 1st "Real Men Wear Pink" pageant in the LSUS Theater. Look for it again in April 2008! While breast cancer education and awareness is our main philanthropy, the ladies of Eta Omega reguarly volunteer in the Shreveport-Bossier community with Habitat for Humanity and the Sutton Children's Hospital.

The "Think Pink" campaign is ZTA's primary project for breast cancer awareness. While this program is typically implemented in October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our chapter promotes "Think Pink" throughout the year. We pass out information cards conveying the message of early detection through breast self-examination, clinical examinations and screening.
Zeta Tau Alpha has teamed up with Yoplait for their "Save Lids to Save Lives" Campaign. ZTA's across the nation collect Yoplait lids to benefit the ZTA Foundation's breast cancer education efforts as will as Komen for the Cure. The ZTA lid collection is also featured on the Yoplait website and the Yoplait newsletter.
As part of "Think Pink" activities in October 2006, our chapter, along with other ZTA chapters across the nation, hosted a "Courage Night" viewing party for the Lifetime Television Premiere of "Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy." The movie is based on the book written by ZTA's 2006 Convention Special Initiate, Geralyn Lucas. Lifetime Television asked ZTA to lead its College Outreach program and sent each chapter a "Courage Night in a Box" kit which includes discussion guides and breast cancer education materials. Lifetieme also honored ZTA as a Lifetime "Breast Cancer Hero" at the premiere of the movie in New York on October 11, 2006.

Zeta Tau Alpha is a co-sponsor of the National Series Breast Cancer Survivor Program (with RE/MAX) at all Susan G. Komen for the Cure/Race for the Cure Events. ZTA and RE/MAX provide the pink survivor caps and T-shirts as emblems of hope and inspiration to breast cancer survivors. "In Celebration Of" and "In Memory Of" back signs are provided to all Race participants so they might honor someone they know affected by the disease. Every year, the ladies of Eta Omega volunteer at the Survivor's tent handing out gifts provided by our chapter.
