Having trouble threading loopers and sewing machine needles? I do. Having diabetic problems, I often have trouble seeing the eye of the needles. So here are a few methods I've come up with to help.
DENTAL FLOSS THREADER
You can find these near the dental floss in your drug store. They work on size 14 or higher sewing machine needles. Their great for loopers on sergers too. You may want to cut them a bit shorter. Just thread through the eye of the needle, then thread the thread through the loop. Place a finger behind the tip of the machine needle, grasp the tip of the floss threader and pull through slowly. Don't jerk it. There will be a slight resistance, but if you are careful the threader and thread will go through.
THE EVER POPULAR METAL THREADERS
Metal Threaders are handy for hand sewing needles, but pose a problem for threading machine needles because they thread front to back. Some people bend the wire and try to thread the machine needle from the back. There is another way. It does take a few more steps.
Step 1: Push the metal thread through the eye of the needle front to back.
Step 2: Take a 6 to 9 inch piece of thread and thread through the loop of the threader.

Step3: Pull thread through eye leaving the ends on other side of needle and making a loop of the thread.

Step 4:Thread the sewing thread through the thread loop.

Step 5: Grasp both ends on the other side of the needle and pull every thing back through the eye.

Step 6: Let go of one end of the string and pull it out. Gently pull the metal threader toward you. There should now be a loop of the sewing thread in the eye. Grasp it and pull through.

Wax
A limp piece of thread is hard to thread. Run your thread through beeswax, then cut through that section. If you are threading a looper, tie your sewing thread to a piece of prewaxed hand quilting thread. The stiffer thread will be eaisier to aim.
