Straight to the point this film has been critically and cruelly underrated in every review Ive read. A war between vampires and werewolves - loosely based on the feuding Montagues and Capulet in Romeo and Juliet is a fairly simple premise but that doesnt warrant the two stars this film has generally received . The central heroine of the film is Cate Moss: a vampire and death dealer whose job it is to hunt down and kill lycans (werewolves). Whilst reviewing a tape of her latest hunt she realizes the lycans are inexplicably trying to capture a human named Michael Corvin. As she starts to investigate further she finds out a number of things about the history of the conflict and her own past. Well put together action sequences and a couple more twists and turns in the plot than you would normally expect from an action film make it thoroughly enjoyable to watch. The similarities to the matrix in terms of style (leather coats etc.) are obvious but its none the worse for them. The only real let down for me was the portrayal of the Vampires themselves. Unlike the werewolves they showed no apparent supernatural powers: fighting only with guns and seemed strangely easy to harm and kill, (with head vampire; Victor the notable exception).
