This Film follows the life of Manuela (Cecilia Roth) who has a loving relationship with her son, who tragically on his 18th birthday is hit down by a car and dies. Manuela is distraught and after clearing his stuff she finds his note book and that the last words he wrote were to know his father. This sends Manuela on a search to Barcelona to find the man she left 18 years ago and tell him that she was pregnant, had the baby and named him Esteban after his father and that he is now dead. Whilst in Barcelona she meets up with old friends and finds out that “Lola”, her ex has gone and left another girl, Maria (Penelope Cruz) pregnant.
This film confused me at first and I found it had to many story lines involved, however once the movie continued to run I really started to appreciate the genius of Pedro Almodovar, whom portrays the reality of Barcelona which goes deeper than the beautiful buildings. This is a film worth watching and it is excellently put together and a credit to Pedro Almodovar.
