| From the people who brought you Ice Age...comes Robots, the latest in the line of digitally animated films that are to appeal to children and adults. The setting this time is the glamorous mechanical Robot City, where small-town inventor Rodney Copperbottom goes to find his fortune only to end up embarking on an adventure to save the city. The plot is predictable but this does not make the film any less enjoyable. The film is perfectly polished and animated, the setting enough to make your eyes cry with joy over seeing something so wonderful. There are also some stunningly clever sequences, including travelling across town and surfing on a sea of dominoes and Fender (voiced by Robin Williams) provides more than a few of the laughs that frequently fill this film. Something that may disappoint, however, is the film's lack of ability to strongly put across its message to "follow your dreams". The characters, despite being 3D, are actually 2D in the sense that there is very little development and may leave you with the feeling that you should know something more about them. But what does that matter? Robots is great enough to keep you occupied and entertained for the whole of its duration. This, combined with its beauty, should be enough to smooth over its less pleasing points. | ||
