Terrible, utterly, utterly terrible. I mean, it was hideous, to see such a beautiful book butchered in such a way. The story is nothing but reminiscent of the story told in the book. It's like most book adaptations, the book's better. The book's not just better in this case, it's like they've written a whole new story and just kept the characters names the same. They didn't even name some of the main characters. They forgot one of the main characters. But asides from the distance between the book and the film, the film itself isn't very good. The story line is all over the place and cannot seem to decide in which direction it would have liked to have gone. There is an attempt at a poor scene reminiscent of the end of Interview With A Vampire (the film to which this is a sequel, although in all reality I find it bears no resemblance). The film has a far too happy ending for my tastes, although it seems to have turned away from the glory that it could have become and became a poor movie which focuses more on the music and the culture for which it was 'made' for. (Of course like most things this is dispelled by the fact that Aaliyah is in it.) They just went for big names and flashy effects, the money could have been much more aptly spent on decent scripting. They could have read the books and not just the synopsises as well.

On a side note, the music rocks, watch it just to hear Jonathan Davis actually singing the songs (as a catch in his contract prevented him from singing on the sound track).
