| Why has it taken so long for the film adaptation of Lloyd Webbers stage musical to get here? Fans of the musical will be thrilled to see it arrive on the silver screen and will enjoy the lavish costumes and grand settings, yet some of us, including myself, will slightly wonder was it worth the wait? There are no big stars to sell this picture, then again the title can sell for its self. Emmy Rossum is an impressive Christine while Patrick Wilson (Raoul) and Gerard Butler (Erik) are all fitting for their roles. Schumacher keeps things simple and actually stays true to the stage version which is rather annoying for the fans who do not actually like the musical. Having read the book many times, it still remains a firm favourite (compared to the stage version) and you can experience love, horror and grandeur for all under a fiver which is so much less than going to see this so-so film at the cinema. | ||
