| This film is directed by Fernando Trueba and is based on Spanish cinema in the 1930’s. It centres on the lives of a group of Spanish actors that have flown to Germany, now in the middle of a Nazi rule, and are filming a film both in German and Spanish. The main Story line is directed at Macarena Granada (Penelope Cruz) who is forced to do this film in the hope that the director Fontiveros (Antonio Resines) will get her father out of prison for fighting on the RED side of the Spanish Civil War. It is a drama/comedy love, sex, war and trying to make a movie. It deals with the whole idea of Nazism and there hatred for the Jews that is excellently portrayed, showing that the Spanish were quite ignorant to the state of affairs abroad. I found this film really touched my heart as it was showing what life was like for women in the 1930’s and for those who were persecuted by the Nazis. I understand that this is not everyone’s taste and could be quite boring for those not interested in Spanish history, however it touched my heart and I found it fantastic. | ||
