| Million Dollar Baby, written and directed by Clint Eastwood, is the story of Maggie (Hilary Swank) who wants Frankie (Clint), a boxing manager to train her as boxing is her only passion. It takes Eddie Dupris, an ex boxing pro (Morgan Freeman) to get these two together. Once Maggie and Frankie are working together a beautiful relationship unfolds. Themes such as regrets, family, friendship and love are explored in the film which is helped by the amazing acting by all three major stars. Swank has confirmed her Oscar nomination (and most probably win) with her fantastic performance as Maggie, and Eastwood and Freeman show all younger actors how it should be done. It is clear that this is Eastwoods baby as he does not rush his story, he guides his audience at his own pace throughout the film. Before the film had finished I knew this was special, but what confirmed this was the shocking silence that followed when the credits rolled. No one in the cinema moved for five minutes, the lights came up, still no body moved. Everyone, including myself, was still reeling from the shock of such a powerful and touching movie, a masterpiece. | ||
