The Sea Inside has got to be one of the most touching films I have seen so far this year, surrounded by the American Blockbusters films such as this are overlooked. This film is about life and the pains it brings, so much so that when the pain gets so great you only feel like death is the only option.
This is the story of Ramn Sampedro (Javier Bardem) a quadriplegic, paralysed from the neck down after a sea accident when he was 26. He has lived his life bedridden for 25 years and has had enough and decides to fight the State and the Catholic Church so that he can die with dignity. Based on a true story this film can really only open your eyes. On Ramns journey he influences to women who can not understand how a man that appears to be so happy with life should want to end it.
I recommend that you go see this film and without a doubt it deserves its nomination for best foreign film at the Oscars. Go see this and you too will be touched, but dont go if you just want a light film, for that I suggest a blockbuster.
